Bert Eugene Rogers, Sr., 83, of Nederland, died Wednesday, August 22, 2018. He was born on November 29, 1934, in Beaumont, to Marie and A.C. Rogers, Sr.

Bert served in the United States Army in the Headquarters Unit for Chemical, Bacterial and Radiological Affairs. He was a proud graduate of Beaumont High School in 1952 and received a bachelor's degree in Industrial Management from Lamar University. Bert began a three-year career at Boeing Airplane Company in Kansas, spent one year at Texas US Chemical and retired from Gulf States Utilities as Director of Corporate Office Services after thirty-five years. During Gulf States, he made presentations at IBM's research center in California, Edison Electric Institute's Annual Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, and also a conference in Miami, Florida with regard to research and development of a nuclear records management system. At that time, he became a founding member of the Organizational Board of the Nuclear Records Management Association. After retirement, he taught school in Nederland ISD for two years.

He served seven years as a trustee on the Nederland ISD School Board and ten years as a Councilmember Ward IV of Nederland. Bert was a member of Nederland's Economic Development Committee, member of the Board for the Mid-County Senior Citizens Foundation and served on the Board for the Nederland Educational Foundation. He was a Past President Member of the Nederland All-Sports Booster Club, life member and past president of the Lamar University Alumni Association, and Past Board President of the Lamar Rothwell Bible Chair and Wesley Foundation.

Bert was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in served in numerous church committees. He loved gardening and sharing delicious, beautiful tomatoes. Bert enjoyed fishing, golf, reading, teaching, and playing with his great-grandson, Elijah Rogers. He also "enjoyed" accompanying Sandra and holding her purse and camera gear while she took photos of everyone.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Gray Rogers, Nederland's avid photographer; children, Bert Rogers, Jr. of Beaumont; Becky and her spouse, B.J., of Huto; and Derron Rogers of Nederland; grandchildren, Doug, Laci, and Max Rogers; great-grandson, Elijah Rogers; brother, A.C. Rogers, Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of San Antonio; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Judy Gray of Nederland; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A gathering of Mr. Rogers' family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 24, 2018, at Broussard's, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 25, 2018, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3515 Helena Avenue, Nederland. Cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard's Crematorium, Beaumont.
