The Lord welcomed home John Harden Broussard, Jr., early Sunday morning, October 15, 2023, at the age of 89. He passed away at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. A native of Lottie, Louisiana, John was born on January 12, 1934, the third of six children. At age 11, his father died, thrusting him into early adulthood as the oldest son. His early love of hunting and fishing became a means to help support the family. He struggled through school due to added responsibilities and graduated from Livonia High School in 1954. Afterwards, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in which he served three years, attaining the rank of SP4 before being honorably discharged in 1962. After the Army, he married Anna Coulon on January 4, 1958, and started a family while attending Spencer Draughon Business College at night. In 1959, he was hired by Gulf States Utilities (Entergy) where he worked for 40 years, reaching the position of area line foreman before retiring in 1999. Throughout his life, he was a dedicated, hardworking, and loving provider for his family. Despite his hard upbringing, he was a positive person who loved life and always had a funny story to tell with a twinkle in his eye to his many lifelong friends he called "podnuhs."

A deeply religious man, John belonged first to Cane Brake Baptist Church, where he grew up and was married, then to Brownfields Baptist Church where he raised his family, and finally to Olive Branch Baptist Church of Slaughter, where he spent his retirement years. From his youth, John was an avid fisherman and hunter who looked forward to squirrel, deer, and turkey seasons. For many years, he belonged to the Southside Hunting Club in Sherburne and then to many others. His love for guns led him to be a staunch supporter of Second Amendment Rights, eventually becoming a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

John is survived by his three daughters, Kim Broussard of Dallas, Texas, Rhonda Covington and husband Eddy of Clinton, and Daphne Broussard and husband Kelly Poiencot of Baton Rouge; five grandchildren, Christopher Tullier and wife Ashley of Southlake, Texas, and Jonathan Tullier and Delanna, Kylle, and Delaney Poiencot of Baton Rouge; and two great-grandchildren, Jack and Liam Tullier. He is also survived by two siblings, Katherine Artus of Covington and Cecil Broussard of Ozark, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews with Rick, Carey, and Mark Vallet sharing his passionate love for hunting.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John Harden Broussard, Sr., and Lottie Elmara Cochran; his siblings, Willie and Betty Broussard and Bonnie Vallet; and his wife of 63 years, Anna Broussard.

Visitation will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway on Saturday, October 21, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., with a service to follow with Rev. Rusty Bowser officiating. Interment will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
