Funeral services for Aubrey "Milton" Smith, 86, of Beaumont, Texas, formerly of Conroe, Texas will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 11:30 AM at Mims Baptist church of Conroe, Texas with the Rev. Chuck Fugee officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00- 11:30 AM prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow in Hopewell cemetery in Normangee, Texas at 3:00 PM. Milton was born on October 1, 1937, in Normangee, Texas to James Milton Smith and Corrine Adams Smith. He passed away peacefully on December 29, 2023, in Beaumont, TX with family by his side. Milton was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Ann Smith; two sons, James Smith and David Smith; two grandsons, Micah Smith and Charles Smith; and his beloved wife, Beverly in 2018. He is survived by his loving family: Daughter, Robin Smith; Daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Robert Cole; Son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Tonya Smith; Daughters-in-law, Lola Smith and Mikki Smith; Brother and sister-in-law, Donald Ray and Barbara Smith; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers: Matt Hicks, Christopher Smith, Michael Hanna, Elijah Burks, Steven Burks, and Don Squyres. Honorary pallbearers: Donald Smith, Stephen Smith, Lucas Smith, Robert Cole and the "Slow Poke Sam's" RV Club members.

Milton Smith was raised in Bryan, Texas during the depression, WWII, "the fifties", and the Cold War. These events had a major impact on his memories and the forming of his values. As a child he enjoyed making gadgets like magnets, transistor radios, and other electronics. He witnessed his first TV show in a neighbor's yard as they all gathered to watch wrestling through a thick layer of static. By age 12 he bought his first amateur radio handbook. He later built his own Heath Kit for Morse code, received his operator's license and used his call sign K5JQ on his license plate for decades. It was a natural choice to get a degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the US Army, and employed by Gulf States Utilities Company. Technology and career didn't hinder life for the Smith Family--but made it richer and fuller. In a recent reflection, Milton said, "I was married to the perfect wife. We started dating when she was 14, and I was 16. The best part of it all is our six children." Throughout his life Milton and Beverly worked to further the Kingdom of Heaven. He was ordained as a deacon in June of 1967 at Woodland Baptist, and he continued to serve as a deacon at each church where he was a member. He gave out the Holy Bible with the Gideon's for decades, and he and Beverly served God while camping with "The Slowpokes" RV club. Milton and Beverly traveled across America for over 35 years researching family history at libraries, cemeteries, courthouses and in the homes of many relatives building relationships that lasted--and documenting stories that live on through their books and videos. In retirement, he created a newsletter for over 2,000 former employees of GSU and, he continued to support Wednesday coffee groups for his retired co-workers in pursuit of maintaining those treasured friendships. As an avid lover of technology, Milton put 100s of videos online about family, friends, trips, ancestry, and more. Milton left a legacy of leadership. A legacy of capturing life's moments. A legacy of heirlooms, but most beautiful and undeniable, was his legacy of love for the Lord.
