Picture From Eldridge Mathews:
Edward Mathews is my dad. I grew up next door to the plant. Dad was a District Serviceman. When GSU lost their service franchise within Jasper city limits, due to the City of Jasper building their own power plant, GSU shut their plant down and transferred their personnel.
Mr Morrison, District Superintendent, to Liberty; Edward, Hensley, Harris to Neches Station in Beaumont; Bonnet to Sour Lake; Carl Sawyer to Beaumont Appliance Repair; McGehee and Tubby Otis to the Orange Plant. When the Orange Plant was shut down, McGehee was transferred to Nelson Station. He retired there. All of these happenings at Jasper was around 1943/1944. GSU sold the equipment. I don't know the details. GSU still serviced outside Jasper City Limits. Incidentally, Monty Street, Jill Street's dad, moved his family into the house we vacated.
