Joe Venable

A retired senior vice president with Entergy Nuclear and a veteran of the U.S. Navy's nuclear program, Joe peacefully departed this life surrounded by his family on Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at his home in Baton Rouge. He was 56.

Joe leaves to cherish his precious memory his loving wife and best friend, Karen; three devoted daughters, Ciara Venable, Wendy Venable Gust and husband Kurt, and Catherine Venable Yetman and husband Charles; a devoted son, Timothy Venable and wife Leanne; loving sister, Vicki Venable McBride and husband Barry; three grandchildren, Jesse Venable, Caleb Venable and Stella Venable; Aunt Bonnie and Uncle Leo Mercier, Aunt Judith Faul and Aunt Ruby Lyons; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends and extended family in England.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Emery Venable Sr. and Rosalie Spedale; and his grandparents, Jesse and Lilly Venable.

Pallbearers will be Timothy Venable, David Jones, Kurt Gust, Barry McBride, Kent Mercier and Todd Mercier. Honorary pallbearers are Leo Mercier, Troy Mercier, Kurt Mercier, Charles Yetman and Mike Crow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph's Hospice, Baton Rouge.

The family would like to thank Dr. Stagg and his staff at Medical Oncology, the oncology staff at the Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet and the staff at St. Joseph Hospice. Joe was a kind and gentle man who was devoted to his family. He was a true inspiration to many and gave hope to those who had little. He always enjoyed a warm afternoon fishing. He wouldn't want anyone to be sad as he believed that one day we will all meet again. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
