James Ernest Cifreo died on Saturday, April 2, at Colonial Care Retirement Center. A native of Baton Rouge, Mr. Cifreo graduated from Istrouma High and attended SLI (now ULL) before enlisting in the Army during WWII. He was stationed at Fort Richardson, Alaska. He worked for Gulf States Utilities for 29 years and then worked in the heavy equipment and insulation industry. He married and lost the two loves of his life, first wife Freida Gremillion, who died in 1988, and second wife Anna Conrad, who died in 2011. He was also predeceased by his parents Joseph and Irene Sicard Cifreo, a brother Robert Cifreo, and two sisters-in-law, Mary Lee Cifreo and Bertha Gremillion. He is survived by his daughters and their spouses, Karen and Bill Watson and Phyllis and Frank Killeen. Grandchildren are Gregory Stone, Andrea Stone Bekurs and Patrick, and great grandchild Ethan Bekurs. Others mourning his loss are Scott and Tara Watson, Aaron and Lindsay Watson and their children. Other survivors are a sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Bonnie and Lester Gremillion, Sherod Gremillion, and special family friends Lue Johnson and Ronda Bergeron. He also had six stepchildren and their families. A wake will be held on Thursday, April 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Rabenhorst East, 11000 Florida Blvd. On Friday, April 8, a visitation will be at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church from 9:30 11:00 a.m. followed by a funeral mass and burial at Roselawn. Pallbearers will be Jerry, Mark, and Preston Cifreo, Rodney and Keith Gremillion, Patrick Bekurs, and Gregory Stone. Donations in his name may be made to a veteran's organization.
