Steve Hoover of Entergy Louisiana let us know Phil was not doing well and was in Hospice Care at Lakeland, FL last Tuesday. Phil passed away the next day, Wednesday March 14th, 2018. He was around 64 years. Phil's wishes were to have his ashes spread at the Guadalupe River at New Braunsfels, his family home. Phil Joined GSU around 1980 as 'System Forester' out of Beaumont. Soon after he established Division Foresters in Baton Rouge and Western Divisions to build long lasting tree management programs for GSU's overhead facilities on distribution and transmission. A major concept of Phil's was using agricultural techniques to eliminate millions of trees growing in the corridors, instead of continually shredding and allowing them to grow back. Educating the public about vegetation management was his goal. To get the job done he built a staff of degreed foresters to push his mission. At the 1994 Entergy merger Phil and a team were moved to New Orleans to spread GSU's vegetation programs throughout the Entergy System. Phil left Entergy in the late 90's to relocate to Florida, where his two sons are residing. Phil loved to hunt, play guitar (and write songs), travel and spend time with his family. Thanks to Steve White for sharing this information about Phil.
