Eula Bourque
Eula (Landry) Bourque, age 79, ascended to her heavenly home at 5:15 AM Saturday December 29, 2007. Her earthly life was one of self-sacrifice and dedication to others. While she will be greatly missed, family and friends are happy that she is now in a place where she knows only happiness and peace with the Lord, and with those she loves who went before her.

Eula was born in Ged, LA on October 8, 1928 to Gaston and Josephine (Vice) Landry. She married Houston "Blackie" Bourque on September 29, 1946, and became the loving and beloved mother of 5 children: Linda Tarver of Sheridan, Wyoming; Donna Bourque of Lake Charles; Judy Patterson and husband John of Sulphur; Blain Bourque and wife Paulina (Evans) of Lake Charles; and Gerald Bourque and wife Kathy (Blalock) of Whitehouse, TX. Eula is the Grandmother (Maw Maw) of 15 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren and 1 great grandchild who will be told about her when he or she is born. Also cherishing her memory is her beloved brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Bernice (Bea) Landry, Sr. of Vinton. Her grieving, but rejoicing, family also consists of numerous nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews and cousins of many generations. Special friends who graced her life include Margie Broussard, Edith Patterson, and Charlene Mason. Eula was a loving and devoted wife to Houston "Blackie", and she uncomplainingly, and seemingly tirelessly, took physical care of him for 28 years following his disability from a stroke.

As a child Eula loved to roller skate, and would still occasionally "out-roll" her children when they were growing up. Though a petite woman, she was strong of body as well as heart, and her sons can attest to her strength in playful wrestling. She was a talented seamstress, but her greatest talent, and one which she took great pleasure in bestowing on others, was her cooking. In later years of her life, Eula took great joy and pride in serving as a lector at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Professionally, she retired from Gulf States Utilities on November 1, 1990.

Visitation will be Tuesday January 1, 2008 at Johnson Funeral Home from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a scripture and rosary being held at 6:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday January 2, 2008 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church with Monsignor Jace Eskind officiating. Entombment will follow at Consolata Cemetery.

Waiting to welcome her into heaven are her husband, mother and father, and a grandson. Mom, we will greatly miss you.
