William A. "Bill" Dotson, Jr., 87, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 2:25 AM on Monday, January 25, 2021 in his residence.

Mr. Dotson was born August11, 1933 in Clarks, LA and graduated from Oakdale High School in 1951. He served his country in the U.S. Navy, serving as a hospital corpsman at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Queens, NY. On April 14, 1956 he married the love of his life, Octavia Harris. He was an ordained deacon and honorably served at 12th Street Baptist and Murray Street Baptist Church. He was a charter member of East Ridge Baptist Church. Mr. Dotson retired from Gulf States Utilities, Lake Charles Division, where he worked in the T&D (Transmission and Distribution) Engineering Department. He retired as section head of estimates and extensions.

Mr. Dotson leaves behind his wife of sixty-four years, Octavia Dotson; daughters, Gayla Abshire and husband Allen and Jayne Muzzy and husband Wayne; grandchildren, Lane Saucier of New York, Rev. Megan Saucier and husband Rev. Jason Stanley of Norfolk, VA, Justin Benevage and wife Emily of Iowa, LA, Michael Muzzy of Lake Charles, Jeff Muzzy and partner Jeffery of Portland, OR, Jason Abshire and wife Meagan of Houston, TX, Jerod Abshire and wife Laryn of Lake Charles, and Brandon Abshire and wife Sarah of Lake Charles; and great-grandchildren, Jayne Carter and Alice Stanley, Adele, Dotson, and soon-to-arrive, Lola May Benevage, Keslyn, Meredith, Addilyn, Jason, Jr., Emersyn, and Henry Abshire.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W. A. Dotson and Lola May Dotson; siblings, R.O. Dotson, Doris O'Banion, Gene Dotson, and Lola Kelly.

His funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at East Ridge Baptist Church. Rev. Alan Weishampel will officiate. A private burial will be at Prien Memorial Park, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.
