Garland Allan Derouen, 71, a resident of Lake Charles, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at his residence. Born and raised in Lake Charles, he graduated from LaGrange High School in 1970 and later attended McNeese State University before proudly serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Garland was a dedicated member of IBEW #861 and commenced his career at Sonnier Electric before joining Gulf States Utilities (later Entergy). His commitment to his work spanned more than 30 years until his well-deserved retirement in 2022.

He spent countless days chasing and catching specks in Prien Lake, His specialty was knowing the very best lunch spots in SWLA. His favorite pastime was creating memories with friends and family at the Nabours' farm doing everything from catching bass, cooking for the masses, planting crops, and perch "jerking".

Preceding him in death were his parents, Oland and Darsie Derouen of Lake Charles.

Garland is survived by his loving wife, Mary Derouen of Lake Charles; his brother, Thomas Derouen of Ragley; his children, Brandon and Kim Derouen of Sulphur, and Paul and Carey Blevins of Lake Charles. Cherishing his memory are his grandchildren, Taylor and Trevor Mery of Irving, Miriam and Brock Derouen of Sulphur, and Margaret and Max Blevins of Lake Charles, along with a great-grandchild, Ash Mery of Irving.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm, Thursday, December 21 at Johnson Funeral Home, Lake Charles. Memorial Service will be at 6:00 pm, with Dr. John Robert Black officiating.
