Edward McLean Loggins of Beaumont passed away May 24, 2024. He was 93. Ed was born in Winona, Mississippi, to Elinor Morris Graham Loggins and Edward Loggins, Jr. November 21, 1930. He enjoyed athletics and the many aspects of small-town life. In 1947, he moved to Helena, Arkansas, to live with his father for his senior year of high school. Following high school graduation, he enrolled in the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). While there, he became a proud, lifelong member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. While at Ole Miss, he met Patricia Smith, the love of his life. During the Korean war, he served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Galena, Alaska. It was during that time in which he proposed to Pat. They married March 21, 1953, and celebrated their 71st anniversary this year. After being discharged from Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin, Texas, he continued his education at the University of Texas. From there, Ed earned his Electrical Engineering degree and went to work for Gulf States Utilities Company retiring as Senior Executive Vice President (now Entergy. They moved their growing family to several towns in Texas and Louisiana as he received promotions. Throughout his life, Ed was a leader at school, work and in the civic groups he joined, as well as at home and in church. He was the best husband, Dad, Poppy, golf buddy and friend anyone could want. Ed was a gifted athlete, with special talents in diving, football and golf. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and his beloved HAMACO Sunday School class. Most recently he was also a member of Saxet and Dun Working and was proud to count the members of those clubs as his friends. He is survived by his wife and their four children, Cynthia Hellen (Thomas), Martha Rushing, Brian Russell Loggins (Elaine) and Sharon Hughes (John); eleven grandchildren, Sadie Hellen (Daniel), Emma Yates (Dillon), Cory Christopher (Amanda), Malley Christopher (Oscar), Grant Rushing (Rachel), Garrett Loggins (Julianne), Allison Loggins, Hannah Rivers, Ellen Johnson (Chris), Alexander Hughes (Christina), Meredith Ardman (Denny); ten great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Rivers, Gavin and Caroline Christopher, Ryland and Christian Ponce, Jaxon Canales, Barrett and (Little) Poppy Johnson, Everett Ardman and Weston Ardman (due November 2024); and his favorite niece, Phyllis Townsend Ward. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elizabeth Townsend; and nephew, Charles Townsend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an organization of one's choice. A gathering of Mr. Loggins' family and friends will begin at 9:30 a.m., with his funeral service at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont. | |||||||||
