Mary Magdalene David Sam was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was born July 27, 1944, in Beaumont, Texas, to Ambrose David and Romanda Alex and returned to her Heavenly Home on September 3, 2024. Mary was raised in the "North-End Community" of Beaumont, attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in her youth, and was a proud graduate of Charlton Pollard High School Class of 1963. After graduation, she attended Texas Southern University for several semesters, and from there, Mary began her courtship with William "Bill" Sam Sr. The two married on December 26, 1964, and would live out their vows for nearly 60 years. Their union produced three children and five grandchildren. Mary finished her education at Lincoln Business College, which led to a 22-year career at Gulf States Utilities in the accounting services department. However, her true devotion was her ministry at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church and her community. Mary Sam spent over 30 years preparing families for the sacrament of Baptism. Additionally, she taught CCE and was a member of the Ladies Sodality, where she served as an officer, the Katharine Drexel Society, and the Rosa Mystica Group. Mary spread her love to so many people, whether via a prayer, sewing a quick hem, cooking and providing a meal, baking a delicious good, or by far her favorite: sending the perfect greeting card. Whether it was helping you at the beginning of your Christian journey through Baptism or her innate ability to care for and comfort the sick as they transitioned into life-everlasting, she was there for everyone, no matter the condition. Mary's unwavering devotion to her Catholic faith illuminated her path and allowed her light to shine brightly in all aspects of her 80 years of life. Mary's parents, beloved family, and friends welcome her into eternal peace. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, William "Bill" Sam, Sr.; sisters Barbara Campbell and Dora Hebert (Larry) and Delores Carter; daughter Frances Graham; sons William "Bill" Sam, Jr. (Kimberly) and Chris Sam (Miriam); grandchildren Bailee Graham, Elliott Sam, Matthew Sam, Joshua Roberts, and Jacob Sam; sisters-in-law Bertha Johnson (Willie, Sr.) and Bernadette Antwine (Terrell); and a host of family and friends.
