Sammie McKenzie
Samuel A. "Sammie" McKenzie A retired supervisor with Gulf States Utilities and a resident and native of Baton Rouge, he died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at age 87.

He was a U.S. Army Air Force Sveteran of World War II, serving from 1942 to 1946.

Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., was on Thursday, Oct. 30, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church on Friday, Oct. 31, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m. Graveside service at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.

Survived by his wife of 64 years, Laverne B. McKenzie; and son, Donald McKenzie and wife Jayme B. McKenzie, of Springfield. Preceded in death by his parents, Anthony W. and Zelma C. McKenzie; sister, Daryln M. Kimberly; and brothers, Donald E. and Vernell E. McKenzie.

Pallbearers will be Jake Bollinger, Dale LeBlanc, Darryl Hebert, Tim Guidroz, Andy Thames and Jimmy Buras. Honorary pallbearer is Vernell E. "Mackie" McKenzie Jr. He was a member of United Commercial Travelers, International Management Council, Toastmasters International, GSU Sideliners and Cajun Clickers.
