Joyce was born May 22, 1934 in Livingston, Texas and passed away November 30, 2025 in Liberty, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee Undis Maze and Mamie Era Gentry Maze; and siblings, Louis Chamblin, Avis Cook, Herman Maze, Thurman Maze, and Hubert Maze.

Joyce's last words were, "I love you, Lord with my whole heart" and that is how she lived, representing him. Everyone who met her and knew her, always commented on how kind and sweet she was. She came from a long line of godly people, some of which were charter members of the Old North Church in Nacogdoches, Tx. She was a wonderful, loving, and faithful wife, and a tender, loving mother and grandmother. She was a mother to many. She had wisdom and shared it when asked. Joyce was very smart and talented. She was an excellent seamstress, crocheted beautifully, and handstitched many beautiful quilts.

She played the piano and had a lovely singing voice. She and dad sang together. Their favorite song together was I Want to Stroll Over Heaven with You. She was very involved alongside Daddy as he pastored several churches. She taught Sunday School, played the piano, participated in Vacation Bible school, anywhere she could serve. She was a generous supporter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the World War II museum in Louisiana and Saint Jude's Children's Hospital. Her generous spirit came from her own experiences, having been born and growing up during the Great Depression. She had five other siblings and her dad passed when she was 13 months old. His death, as well as growing up in the Great Depression, made her appreciate everything she had. She and Daddy built the kind of love and life any couple would want. They were married 73 years and 5 months. We rejoice that she is in the presence of the Lord. We will love her forever.

She is survived by her husband of 73 years, JE Murphy of Liberty, Texas; son, Joe Murphy and wife Dawn of Hemphill, Texas; daughter, Gwen Cowart and husband Marvin of Liberty, Texas; grandchildren, Callie Murphy Kelly and husband Christian of Liberty, Texas, Jodi Hester and husband Carl of Hull, Texas, Jason Cowart and wife Monique of Dayton, Texas, Michael Sarver and wife Tiffany of College Station, Texas, and Tiffany Schmidt and husband James; great grandchildren, Imogen Kelly, Elliott Kelly and wife Ariel, Oliver Kelly, Alexander Kelly, Mattalyn Neally, Leslie Jean Brock, Vivianne, John William and Audrey Cowart, Makenna and Reid Solis, and Grayson Sarver; great-great grandchildren, Archie and Charlotte Kelly, Mayve Jo Neally and Elyza Jean Neally; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
