Rolland (Black Top) Broussard, 88, of Iowa, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2011 in Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. Born in Bell City to Adam and Lezima Ardoin Broussard on June 24, 1923, Rolland attended school in Iowa where he excelled in track and field. He was the recipient of a full scholarship to LSU, but was unable to accept due to being drafted into the Army Airforce where he proudly served his country during WW II. He was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church. Rolland was an employee of Gulf States Utilities for 39 years. His hobbies included camping, traveling and visiting with friends. Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Wilda L. Broussard of Iowa; sons, Leland Broussard (Linda) of Elk City, Ok and Jerry Broussard (Phyllis) of Lake Charles; daughter, Cindy Gordon (Rickey) of Iowa; grandchildren, Shawn Broussard of Lindsey, Ok, Sarah LeBleu (Eric) of Iowa, Joshua Broussard (Tina) of Moss Bluff, step grandchild, Shawnda Calahann (Dusty) of Elk City, Ok, 1 great grandchild, Hayden LeBleu and 1 great grandchild on the way, Cooper Broussard, 3 step great grandchildren, Rylee Moore, Xander Moore and Karlee Calahann. His parents and siblings preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home with Father Marcus Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Lacassine Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Tuesday in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home from 6:00 -10:00 p.m. with a 7:30 rosary and continue on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service. |
