William Gene Long, a native of Marshall, MO and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away on Wednesday October 12, 2011
at the age of 74. He was a US Army veteran and was retired from Gulf States Utilities where he worked for 36 years.
He was an avid LSU and Saints football fan who enjoyed basketball and had a passion for Sudoku puzzles. William had
a lot of pride and love for his house on Lake Talquin in Quincy, FL. William was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara Bellows Long; one daughter, Marti Kent and husband Wayne Kent of Baton Rouge, LA ; one son, John Robert Long and wife Natalie Rizzutto Long of Jarreau, LA; one brother, Dean Franklin Long; and two grandchildren: Morgan Kent and Jordan Kent. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Eugenia Long; and half brother, Al Grother Jr. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Thursday October 13, 2011 from 6pm- 9pm and on Friday October 14, 2011 from 12pm until service at 2pm. Pallbearers will be: John Robert Long, Wayne Kent, Kyle Kirkpatrick, Tom Ketterer, Michael Remson, and Andy Holden. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Everett Bonner, Dr. Douglas Say, and all of the nurses on the 6th floor at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.
