Alfred Henry Sr., began life on August 13, 1931, to Tom and Louisiana Henry in Cankton, Louisiana. "Shotgun," as he was known to many, was known for being a lover of people, always lending a helping hand and being a pillar of strength in the community and a mentor to many. He was an active member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Alcoholic Anonymous on Haskell Street, where he faithfully served as a counselor, and a longtime member of Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, but most importantly he was a faithful husband, father/grandfather, and friend. Alfred retired from Gulf States Utilities after 34 years of faithful service and then began a career at the Isle of Capri Casino, where he worked for 11 years before retiring to continue in his passion of people through his counseling, gardening, and maintaining a small lawn service with his loving brother. To have known Alfred is to love him. He loved people and people loved him.

Alfred was preceded in death by his parents Tom Henry Sr. and the former Louisiana Jean Henry; by loving sisters Mary Ruth Anderson and Florence Mary Plumber; brothers, Herman Henry, V.H. Henry, Marion Henry, Preston Henry, and Albert Henry.

Mr. Henry leaves to mourn his departure, yet cherishing the beautiful memories of his everlasting love: his loving wife of 67 years Verna Mae Henry, two sons: Alfred Henry Jr. of California, and Caldwell (Judy) Henry of Seagoville, TX; three daughters Glenda Henry of Houston, TX, Carolyn Henry and Patricia Henry of Lake Charles, LA; five grandchildren, Olisha (Timothy) Prater, Patrice Henry, Terrance Guillory, Alexa Henry, and Ronald Guillory; two great-grandchildren, Mariana Williams and Jaycelei Anthony. One sister Myrtle Malbrough; three brothers, Edward (Brenda) Henry, Vincent (Bonnie) Henry, and Tom (Delores) Henry; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016, from 8:00 am to 10:30 a.m. at King's Funeral Home and funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
