Columbus Hanks, 89, passed away at his residence on September 20, 2017. Mr. Hanks was born in Lake Arthur to Joseph and Emma Istre Hanks on January 12, 1928. He honorably and faithfully served our country in the United States Navy during World War II. Following his discharge from the Navy, he moved to Lake Charles and began his career with Gulf States Utilities. Shortly after moving to Lake Charles he met and married the love of his life, Wilda Duhon. They shared 66 years of marriage and devotion to one another. Mr. Hanks will be remembered as a generous, caring man who enjoyed volunteering and helping at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church where he was a member. He is survived by his wife, Wilda Hanks; and a great granddaughter, Shelly Adams. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sheila Hanks Biancone; and 11 siblings. His funeral service will be at 10 AM on Friday, September 22, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Home. Monsignor Charles Dubois will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 PM until 8 PM, with a rosary at 6 PM, and will resume on Friday from 8 AM until the start of the service.
