John Ivy Vice, 84, having lived an eventful life filled with great memories went to be with our lord Jesus Christ, peacefully at his home in Crystal Beach, TX on February 29, 2008.

All pain has been replaced with a new body as he now shares a home in heaven with those loved ones which preceded him in death; his father and mother Elvy and Lucreze LeBlanc Vice; five brothers, Julius, Calvin, Forest, Preston and Daniel Vice; and four sisters, Sister Audrey Vice, Gloria Dell Vice, Daisy Vice Armentor, and Winnie Vice Stracener; and step-son Jerry Lynn Christian.

John was born in Port Neches, TX on May 9, 1923, one of fourteen children blessed upon the Vice home. He began his career working in the steel industry, and later answered his country's call to service at the age of 19, proudly serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II for 31 months aboard the USS President Adams in the Pacific Fleet. During which time, he was promoted to Coxswain and captained Higgins boat API-19-2. His service career was one of distinction and decoration, and was a source of pride throughout his lifetime.

Upon returning home, John began a career with Gulf States Utilities where he would serve us a troubleshooter, leader, IBEW steward / president and friend; for 39 years of perfect service until retirement in 1985.

John was self-taught, smart, famously witty, direct, and wise. His love of family and friends were immense and unyielding. His love of life was addicting . He was actively involved in the community, and never too busy to lend an encouraging word. John is survived by Helen Christian Vice, wife and friend of 37 years. When married in 1971, each brought previous children into the house to make it a home. He is survived by his children Phillip Lloyd Vice of Missouri City, TX and Debra Ann Millis of Sarasota, FL; Helen's children Gary Christian and wife Nancy of Huntsville, TX, Theresa Gates Ellis and husband Howard of Coppell, TX, Denice Hollis and husband Gene of Pasadena, TX.; brothers Claude Louis Vice and wife Esther of New Iberia, LA, Douglas Vice and wife Peggy of New Iberia, LA; grandchildren Angela, Valerie, Paige and Brandon Vice, Amy Jones and Marshall Millis; Kelsey, Colt, and Abbey Christian, Katie and Mallory Parish, Krystal Gray, Sean Holton and Angel McDonald; great grandchildren Steffanie Vice and Taylor Roy Jones; Leland and Ryan Holton.

The family will receive visitors Sunday, March 2, 2008 from 6:00-9:00 PM, with the rosary at 7:30 PM at Evangeline Funeral Home in New Iberia, LA. Services will be held Monday, March 3, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel at Lady of Lakes Catholic Church in Delcambre, LA. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Roy, David, Rusty and Carl Vice, Steven Fremin, Benson Langlinais and Britt Wiley.
