Milton Smith remembers Ronnie Howell:
When I remember Ronnie Howell I think back to Reader's Digest's "The Most Unforgettable Character I Ever Met." I first met Ronnie in 1979. He was a foreman in GSU's Conroe Line Department. He was rough looking, big, REALLY big, with red hair. His fingers were almost as large as my wrist. He spoke the language of a sailor.
Then two events changed everything! First he had surgery to stop him growing--like I said he was big.
Second and most important: he got saved when he met Jesus.
2nd Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature, old things are passed away, behold all things are become new. This Bible verse is a perfect description of Ronnie.
Ronnie became a constant witness for Christ Jesus. He regularly went into jails, prisons, etc. He offered to arm wrestle anyone as he told about what Jesus had done for him. Inmates listened to this big, strong, rough looking man. Years ago one of his companions announced that Ronnie would pay $20 to anyone who could beat him at arm wrestling. Many tried but Ronnie never lost a penny. But they heard about Jesus.
Ronnie Howell was the most unforgettable character I ever met. He was a fine Christian gentleman who could arm wrestle and beat the devil!
