Joe Hopkins

Joe A. Hopkins, 64, died Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.

Born in Taylor, TX, he was raised in Southeast Texas and lived in Vidor for the past 30 years. Joe retired from Gulf States Utilities as a Computer Analyst in 1995. He graduated from Bellville, TX where he was a football star. He attended the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.

Joe was serving his 5th consecutive term as Mayor of Vidor. He is the longest serving Mayor in Vidor history. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Vidor and was a member of the Masonic Lodge #1286. Joe loved his community and served it faithfully. He was a volunteer for the Vidor Lions Club, United Christian Care Center, Hospice, Special Olympics, and VITA.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Vidor, with burial to follow at Village Mills Cemetery in Village Mills, TX at 1:00 p.m.. Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2008 at First Baptist Church.

Joe is survived by his wife of 13 years Judy Hopkins, daughters Nina Ruth Dula of Beaumont, TX, Carla Folse of China, TX, Kim Jordan of Kirbyville, TX, son Chuck Davis of San Diego, CA, brothers Carl Hopkins, Jr. of Rosenberg, TX, Tommy D. Hopkins of Sugarland, TX, sister Helen P. Case of Lumberton, TX, and grandchildren Jeremy W. Dula, Jonathon T. Dula, James I. Dula Rebekah E. Folse, Luke A. Folse, Joey Collier, Kent Jordan.
