Dolores Spafford

Dolores R. Spafford of Beaumont was born on July 2, 1929 and died Saturday, July 5, 2008 at Dubuis Hospital in Beaumont.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Spafford; sister, Betty McDonald; and brother, Charlie Rightly.

Although born in Wilmington, Delaware, Dolores had lived in the Beaumont area for most of her life and considered herself a true Texan. A loving mother and Memaw, she is survived by her children, Carol Keen and her husband Mike of Morrison, Colorado, Debbie Calvert and her husband James of Beaumont, Becky Christ and her husband Rodney of Hamshire, and Butch Spafford and his wife Cheryl of Nederland; grandchildren, Rhonda Keen and her husband Jeff Friedlander, Suzanne Keen, Matthew Calvert, Thomas Calvert, Larry Porter IV, Sarah Porter, Justin Porter, Aaron Christ and his wife Tiffany, Amy Smith and her husband Sean, and Courtney Bruner; great grandchildren, Abigail, Zachary, and Eliam; sisters, Johnnie Kuykendall and Doodie Hebert; and other loving family members.

A 1946 graduate of Beaumont High School, she retired after thirty-three years of employment at Gulf States Utilities. She was a member of Westgate Memorial Baptist Church. During retirement Dolores enjoyed traveling, needlework, crafts, going to lunch with her high school friends and playing cards with “the bridge group.” Family reunions where she presided as the COTB were always a hit. Most of all, Lil Mama enjoyed being close with her family and participating in all their activities. Her smile and laughter will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2008 at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the Mortuary.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.
