Harley Erickson

Harley Frederick Erickson, 81, of Willis, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 18, 2008. Harley was born October 10, 1926, to O. M. and Hazel Erickson in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He was in the Army Air Corps in WWII, attended Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen and graduated from SD School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City as an Electrical Engineer.

He worked for the Bureau of Reclamation, Corps of Engineers, then with NASA in Houston for 18 years, and with Gulf States/Entergy in Conroe until his retirement.

Harley enjoyed Boy Scouts, family camping, sailing on Lake Conroe, singing in high school and college choirs, and over 60 years of singing in Methodist and Lutheran Church choirs. Harley is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Vera, his son Steve and wife, Patti Erickson of Dallas, Texas, his brother Wayne and wife Val Erickson of Rensselaer, Indiana, his sister-in-law Mavis Schroh of Aberdeen, South Dakota, his grandchildren, Elspeth, Kestrel and Rowan Erickson of Dallas and LeeAnne Miller of League City, Texas, and his great grandson, Michael Lee Talley II. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews and many friends.

Harley was preceded in death by his parents, O. M. and Hazel Erickson, an infant daughter Barbara Lynn, adult daughter Becky Jo McSherry, and his grandson PV2 Eric McSherry, who recently lost his life at Fort Hood, Texas. Harley was also preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Paul and Alma Papke and brother-in-law, Joseph A. Schroh. We thank the wonderful, caring staff, volunteers, and friends at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, the never ending help and caring of Odyssey House hospice in Conroe, all of our friends from Grace Lutheran Church and our friends and neighbors of every denomination who have been praying for us and with us.

A memorial service will be held on September 27, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Conroe, Texas. A reception will follow. A visitation with friends and family will be held at Grace Lutheran Church on Friday, September 26 from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at Grace Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Grace Lutheran Church, 13123 Highway 105 West, Conroe, TX 77304, or Odyssey House, 233 I-45 North, Conroe, TX 77304.
