George McCarthy passed away on September 22, 2022, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's and cancer. He was 87.

George was born on July 9, 1935, in Opelousas, Louisiana (Gradney Island). He retired from Entergy, formerly Gulf States Utilities, after nearly 30 years where he was a master mechanic in the coal unit.

His love for fixing things earned him the name "The Boss." He was the go-to guy for his family and friends. He had a passion for working on cars, building things, and mathematics. He once restored a 1981 Renault 16 to its former glory and affectionately referred to it as his "lil work car." He even painted it with house paint and that became an amusing moment for his family for many years. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. Even in his last days, he still enjoyed listening to zydeco music, preferably Boozoo Chavis.

On April 22,1956, George married the late Maudrey Lee Handy McCarthy, the love of his life. To this union, six children were born. George and Maudrey instilled hard work and work ethic in their children. They ensured they understood the value of a good education, integrity, and treating others with respect.

George was preceded in death by his loving wife, Maudrey Lee Handy McCarthy; son, Peter Lunsford McCarthy; and grandson, Peter Lewayne McCarthy.

He is survived by his daughters Menelika Basele of Temecula, California, Janise (Robert) Lewis, Catherine McCarthy, Shonna Monique (Lyle) Lewis, and Marlise (Keith) Cezair all of Lake Charles; granddaughters Asha Tefera, Amethyst (Dylan) Marrone, Adley Cezair, Kamri Lewis, and Jada Lewis; grandsons Michael (Saffron) Dodd, Patrick McCarthy, Sean Lewis, Lyle Lewis, Jr., Keith Cezair, Jr., and Craig Thierry; great-grandchildren Khalil Rashad, Kaiya White, Brynn McCarthy, and Athena Marrone; special nephew Andrew Drayton; and grand dogs Sam Lee, Barkley Charles, and Seven Saint.

The viewing will be at James Funeral Home, 1801 Moeling Street, Lake Charles, LA, on Saturday, October 1, 2022, from 8:00-10:30 A.M. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Henry Catholic Church, 1021 8th Avenue, Lake Charles, LA, on Saturday, October 1, 2022, 11:00 A.M. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Mausoleum.

The family kindly asks for donations to be made in George's memory to the Alzheimer's Association at http://act.alz.org/goto/George_McCarthy.
