Tommy Elliott
Born June 21, 1939 in El Cajon, CaIifornia to T.A. Peters and Hazel Killebrew Peters.

Tommy moved to Vidor as a child, where he hunted squirrels and rabbits in the woods and fished in the ponds and creeks and worked on the family farm. He attended school in Vidor and graduated with the class of ‘57. He enlisted In the U S Navy and served from 1957 to 1961 as a radar-man aboard the USS Taylor, based at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Tommy hired in as a lineman with Gulf States Utilities in 1961. While employed with Gulf States, he also worked as a dispatcher and as a service man in the Vidor office. He was a master electrician with IBEW Local 479. He retired after 37 years from Entergy as the Senior Line Coordinator. While working for Gulf States, he attended Lamar Tech and became certified in air conditioning and refrigeration. After he retired, he worked for the City of Vidor as a Code Enforcement Inspector.

He was a lifelong member of Pine Forest Baptist Church; A proud supporter and lifetime member of the National Rifle association; A member of The American Legion Post 112; A member of the Orange Gun Club, The One in One Hundred Gun Club, The Tin Can Sailors Association, The Texas State Rifle Association, The Entergy Sideliners and The Republican Party.

Tommy was an avid sportsman and hunter who enjoyed traveling to Utah with friends for bow hunting and whitetail hunting in Texas as well. He was brilliant, generous and a real patriot.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Zane and Hazel Elliott, his sisters, Patricia Peters and Carol Brown and his nephew, Shane Elliott and T A Peters. He is survived by his son; Jeffrey Elliott (Beaumont), his daughter; Laura Tamplin (Port Arthur), Grandchildren; TK Tamplin and Colin Tamplin (Nederland), Melissa Elliott and Ian Elliott (Vidor); Brothers, Billy Elliott (Pine Forest) and James Lee Elliott (Kirbyville), His Lady friend and companion of 20 years, Carolyn Bair (Vidor) and his Step-mother, Laura Peters (Utah).

A memorial service will be held Friday, June 19, 2009 at 10:00 AM with visitation beginning at 9:00AM at Pine Forest Baptist Church, Vidor Texas. Flowers should be directed to the church office. Memorial contributions can be made to The American Cancer Society, The One in One Hundred gun club or the Orange gun club.

From Milton Smith: Tommy Lee Elliott passed away at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 16, 2009. He was in St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont ending a long struggle with cancer. Tommy began his career with GSU in the Beaumont Line Department in 1961. He also worked in the Vidor Service and Training Departments. He was Supervisor of the Beaumont Dispatchers and handling small claims when he retired about 1997-98.
