Wilfred Broussard

Wilfred Broussard, 85, of Lake Charles passed away at 10:30 PM, Sunday, October 25, 2009 at his residence surrounded by his family. Mr. Broussard was born April 6, 1924 in Kaplan, LA to Alexander and Oceana Broussard. Mr. Broussard had five sisters; Gladys and husband Presley Trahan, Velta, husband Lloyd Lege, Nelda, and husband Ray Faulk, Effie and husband Chester Meaux, Gussie and husband J. N. Green.

He came to Lake Charles in 1951 to work for Gulf States Utility Company. Mr. Broussard served in the U. S. Army, 11th Airborne Division, as a paratrooper during WW II, in the Philippines from 1943 through 1946. He attended Spencer Business College and McNeese State University in Business Administration.

He married Ethelane Faulk Broussard in 1953. They spent fifty-six joyful years together and were constant companions, enjoying traveling with friends and family. They had two sons, Rodric, Troy, and wife Rhonda Broussard. After thirty-five years he retired from GSU, spent most of his time in the yard tending daylilies and spending many precious weekends, summers with his grandchildren, Thomas, Jessica, companion Mitchell Ryder, Joseph and Ty Broussard, Brittany, and husband Joshua Comer and Shanda Edwards). He also had the benefit of enjoying four great grandchildren, Krista and Kayleigh Edwards, Gavin and Gabriel Comer, and Ava Ryder. He leaves behind life-long friends Jean and Juanita Hebert and Laura Mae Herpin. Mr. Broussard was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-laws, J. N., Lloyd, Chester, and Presley, and his sister Gussie, his son, Rodric and great granddaughter Kayleigh.

His funeral service will be at 6:00 PM, Tuesday, October 27, 2009 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Wayne LeBleu will officiate. Inurnment will be in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM, Tuesday, with a rosary at 5:30 PM, in the funeral home. Special thanks to the staff of Odyssey Healthcare that were here to comfort him and the family in our time of need.
